"ACI" No. 100 Aluminum Corrosion Inhibitor
Davies "ACI-l00" is an ideal product for any aluminum die cast manufacturer. Using "ACI-100" solution following any water contact operation, such as machining, washing, etc. prevents white rust formation. Many die casters have water test tanks, where leakage tests are performed. "ACI-100" can be added directly to these tanks to prevent ensuing white rust formation following testing. This product is effective for aluminum castings and also non-cast aluminum. "ACI-100" working solutions are clear and water-white, and compatible with many water conditions.  [ Inquire

DIRECTIONS – Normal use solution of "ACI-100" are ½ -2% in water, with a good starting point of 1% by volume. This is equivalent to 1 gal. "ACI-100" per 100 gal. of water. Concentration may vary due to aluminum composition, operation, part configuration, and water conditions. The concentration of "ACI-100" in water is easily tested with the Davies Dissolved Solids Meter. Aluminum parts can be immersed in "ACI-100" solution directly following machining or washing while still wet. Contact time will vary with metal type, part configuration, agitation, and degree of protection desired, and must be determined on site for the specific operation. "ACI-100" solutions are effective at room temperature, or may be heated to decrease drying time.

"BACTERIA-BAN #320 TABLETS" PREMEASURED TABLETS STOP BACTERIA GROWTH IN METAL WORKING FLUIDS
Davies "Bacteria-Ban #320 Tablets" prevents the growth of those microorganisms (bacteria) which cause rancidity in metal working fluids, especially oil based products. These tablets are most convenient and easy to use; no measuring is necessary. This protection, in conjunction with Davies tramp pads to remove excess tramp oil, greatly extends the fluid life, and maintains the fluid clean and operating correctly which lengthens tool life, increases machine productivity, and reduces downtime.  [ Inquire

DIRECTIONS – To effectively control rancidity, "Bacteria-Ban #320 Tablets" are added on a weekly schedule. For normal contamination, one table (1 oz.) is used per 25 gal. of diluted fluid; if the system is extremely fouled, use 2 tablets per 25 gal. of fluid. Protection is most effective when added on a Friday or before a brief shutdown period. After the tablet is added, the fluid should be fully circulated for an hour before shutdown.

MACHINING FLUID CONCENTRATES
The D. W. Davies & Co., Inc. , has a most complete line of machining fluids, both synthetic and soluble oil. There are many application overlaps where several products could be appropriate; these circumstances are generally settled by customer preference. Our "Kutsol" products are soluble oil concentrates, designed to give outstanding lubricity, surface finish and rust protection. Our synthetic products are "Mira-Kool" (grinding, misting) and "Lubra-Kool" (general machining). Soluble oils have more lubricity than synthetics and can produce superior surface finish at lower concentrations. Synthetics do not contain oils, dilute to clear solutions, are easily disposable and, if not contaminated, can be discharged to drains. There are brief product descriptions below and a chart to aid in product selection.

"Kutsol 100 & 300" Because there is so much overlap between these two products, they will be discussed together. "Kutsol-100" has more EP (extreme pressure) additives than does #300 and is thus suited for more severe machining operations, such as; tapping, threading and broaching. "Kutsol-300" has been designed to be ‘multimetal functional’, ferrous, aluminum, yellow metals, (copper, brass, etc.) and "Kutsol-100" is intended for ferrous metals (stainless steel, cast iron, sintered iron and exotic composites). Both products are used in similar concentrations (see chart) and both products are used in grinding.

The general rule on "Kutsols" is: use #100 for the more severe machining operations and for the harder, exotic metal stock. Use #300 for more general machine use and for mutimetals.

"Mira-Kool" is our blue chip, synthetic grinding coolant concentrate. Most flood coolant grinding utilizes synthetics and "Mira-Kool" performs will in virtually all types of grinding. If your customer is doing grinding and needs a synthetic, this is the product. "Mira-Kool" can also be used for mist lubrication in general machining.

"Lubra-Kool" is for your customer who does general machining and prefers using a synthetic. This product is fortified with boundary and EP lubricity additives and offers outstanding performance, with the advantage of being a synthetic. "Lubra-Kool" has greater lubricity than "Mira-Kool" and is made for general machining.

"LUBRA-KOOL"ALL PURPOSE SYNTHETIC MACHINING FLUID

"OIL-ZORB" SOCK ABSORBENT
Little leaks in plant machines have been with us since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Many of these leaks are hard for you to find. And with heavy production schedules and tight maintenance budgets, you can’t always afford to shut down just to fix a leak.

So what can you do? You have a guy grab a bag of dirty clay chips and throw them around the leak. While he’s at it, he pitches a few more scoops down for good measure. There you go, at least no one will fall on an oil slick until next time you pull PM on that machine.

But the problem is just beginning. When you throw all that clay around, the grit and dust goes everywhere. It’s no one’s fault, but the loose chips get into the moving parts on your machines and all over your finished product. Dirt and oil may mix just fine . . . but dirt and machines don’t. Stop and think about it for a second. Would you lift the hood of your care and throw a shovel of clay on the engine? Or how about pulling a wheel and rubbing dirt all over the brake lining. Of course you wouldn’t, you’d ruin everything real quick.

Fortunately, there’s a better choice than using damaging clay. "Oil-Zorb" - - - it’s a sock filled with a highly absorbent material and it conforms to practically any machine shape, staying neatly tucked at the base of your equipment.

Each 40 inch "Oil-Zorb" will absorb nearly 2 quarts of fluid. And best of all, it does this absorbing with no effort on your part. You don’t have to shovel it, sweep it, or break your back moving it around. Just lay it in place near the source of a leak and watch it go to work. "Oil-Zorb" was designed to eliminate the dust and grit that you get with clay. Since the absorbent is contained in a tightly-knit sock, the changes for loose dirt flying around are next to nothing.

Insure your machines against premature death. Get a clean and dry shop floor without killing your equipment with dirt.

"SUPER BEADS" GLASS BEADS
"Super Beads" are manufactured from a high grade optical crown glass, lead free, soda lime type, with a minimum silica content of 68%. "Super Beads" have a minimum of free iron.

Because of their round shape, glass beads are not abrasive and consequently do not remove any of the base metal on the part being blasted. For this same reason they do not imbed into the surface, and so no surface residue remains on the metal to be removed in subsequent operations. In other words, blasting with glass beads leaves metallurgically clean surface.  [ Inquire

In cleaning operations the fact that glass bead blasting produces a metallurgically clean surface is of particular importance. Equally important, however, is that fact that such a surface can be produced in seconds on most all materials regardless of the nature of the foreign matter or contaminates to be removed. Even tough mill scale is quickly and efficiently removed without dimensional changes in the part. Glass bead blast cleaning in preparation for painting or plating eliminates many intermediate steps such as neutralizing and drying. Cleaning of deposits and corrosion as found in internal combustion engines, furnaces and process equipment is done economically fast and safe. Other cleaning applications include:

  1. Removal of carbon deposits from spark plugs, valves, pistons and other automotive parts. Cleaning without removal of the metal is of prime consideration in this application since dimensional tolerances are held so closely.
  2. Removal of protective coatings such as paint for refinishing.
  3. Plastic molds and dies can be cleaned by glass bead blasting thereby reducing bench work as much as 95% since after this process the molds release castings more easily than do handfinished ones.
  4. Residue sand can be cleaned from sand castings, leaving the casting with a lustrous chemically clean surface.
  5. Cleaning problems in aircraft engine overhaul are easily solved with glass bead blasting. Pistons, valves and cylinders can be cleaned fast and economically with no change in the dimensional characteristics of these close tolerance parts.
  6. Flux and discoloration removal from parts after brazing can be accomplished by this process.
  7. Glass bead blasting can be used to clean extrusion dies in the removal of very hard oxide on complex shaped surfaces with no metal removal to the die.
  8. Scale removal after heat treating can be accomplished by glass bead blasting and in preparation of the surface for further treatment such as plating or painting.
  9. Oxides, slag and discoloration after welding are successfully removed.
  10. Cleaning of precision parts such as small gears, splines, and shafts can be done without dimensional change in the parts and at the same time achieve removal of small burrs produced in machining.

"SUPER-FLO" FILTER POWDER
"Super-Flo" is one of the very highest quality filter powders on the present day market. It will give you "sharp" filtration that removes all thermophiles and unwanted solids. The unmatched purity of "Super-Flor" results in a lower net density, providing greater surface coverage . . . users report substantial filtration economy.

"Super-Flo" Filter Powder is a specially process grade of diatomaceous earth designed for top filtration efficiency.

"Super-Flo"

  1. Gives longer filter cycles at lower pressures.
  2. Accommodates heavy soil loads such as occur in any industrial application.
  3. Back washes more rapidly with minimum backwash.
  4. Lowers maintenance cost.
What is "Super-Flo"? "Super-Flo" is a white, tasteless, odorless, chalk-like amorphous silica, commonly called diatomaceous earth. The material, of course is composed of countless billions of microscopically small single cell water life skeletons which seem to have flourished in great abundance 15 million years ago in tremendous lakes that covered what is now the states of Nevada, Idaho, California, Washington and Montana. When the water receded, huge deposits of diatomite were formed. The diatomite is mines and processed in huge ovens and screened for size. The main variable in quality is in the heat process and screen process. In processing "Super-Flo" there are no short cuts. It is process for top quality and must pass rigid quality control tests. "Super-Flo" diatomaceous earth has natural filtration properties because it forms a porous filter bed or cake which is non-compressible; and owing to the inherent diatom structure, soils and dirt particles will not pass through the filter bed or more often referred to as a filter cake. "Super-Flo" Filter Powder is so exceptionally pure that it is used for filtering many food products and drug products ranging from sugar to penicillin. Restaurant and cafeterias use "Super-Flo" to filter their greases. "Super-Flo" is also unexcelled when used in swim pool filters. This same high performance of "Super-Flo" Filter Powder makes it correspondingly desired for industrial use where long filtration cycles and low operational cost are virtually necessary.

How does "Super-Flo" remove suspended solids from a liquid? "Super-Flo" is first deposited on the filter screen or cloth by circulating the liquid to form a filter cake which is the true filtering surface. The suspended solids are trapped in this porous filter cake with the aid of the diatomite which catches the soil.

How to use "Super-Flo" In recent years the recommended amount of diatomite for pre-casting a filter was 10 lbs. per 100 sq. ft. of filter area. However, with filters becoming larger and more complicated, it is difficult to have a pattern of internal flow so good that the filter aid will be deposited evenly on the filter surface. All filtration engineers do recommend 10 to 20 lbs. per 100 sq. ft. in order to have the filter powder properly distributed over all the elements. 10 lbs. of "Super-Flo" per 100 sq. ft. of filter area will give a pre-coat thickness of approximately 1/16" . . . the use of extra filter powder on pre-coat will help keep the filter elements cleaner for longer periods of time.
